A Different Life Is 40 Hours Away

No TSA. No Gates. No Delays.

Leave from a smaller airport 10 minutes from home, on your schedule, with zero security lines. Flying private means you control every minute of the trip.

40 Hours to Change Your Life

The FAA minimum is 40 flight hours. Most students finish in 50–70. That's it — the only thing standing between you and a Private Pilot Certificate.

One Flight Tells You Everything.

A 30-minute Discovery Flight in a Cirrus SR-Series answers every question you have. Most people who take one wonder why they waited so long.

Your First Cross Country

The first time you fly somewhere real — alone — changes how you think about distance forever.

Weather Becomes Fascinating

Pilots don't dread storms. They read them, understand them, and navigate around them. It rewires how you think.

You Become the One Who Can

In every room, in every family, in every circle — there are very few pilots. You could be one of them.

There Is No Feeling Like It On Earth

Flying is one of the most demanding, most rewarding skills a human being can develop. It requires discipline, judgment, situational awareness, and the humility to keep learning. It rewards you with capabilities — and perspectives — that no other skill can provide. The view from 10,000 feet on a clear Texas morning changes your relationship with the world below. The moment your wheels leave the runway for the first time, something shifts. Pilots try to describe it. They never quite can.

For many pilots, the license is also a tool — a time machine – a way to travel faster, cover more ground, connect with family, or expand what their business can accomplish. Houston to San Antonio in 55 minutes. Dallas for a morning meeting and home for dinner. The Florida Keys for a long weekend. Whatever your reason for considering it, the answer to the question you've been sitting with is almost always the same: yes. The only question is how soon you start.

Is It Realistic For You?

These are the questions we hear before every Discovery Flight.

Q: Am I too old to start?

No. The FAA requires only that you be at least 17 to earn a Private Pilot Certificate. There is no upper age limit. Some of our most motivated students started in their 50s and 60s.

Q: How long does it take?

As little as 3–4 months full-time. Part-time on weekends and evenings typically takes 6–12 months. The FAA minimum is 40 flight hours — most students finish in 50–70.

Q: What happens after I get my license?

Most pilots immediately start thinking about their Instrument Rating — which lets you fly in clouds and low visibility. Modern Pilot offers the full pathway from Private through Commercial. Your license is just the beginning.

Q: Do I need to be good at math or science?

Basic arithmetic — weights, fuel, distances. What aviation rewards most is discipline, attention to detail, and a genuine desire to learn.

Q: Is it safe?

Modern aviation in a Cirrus SR-Series — equipped with CAPS®, the whole-airplane parachute system — is remarkably safe when pilots are well-trained. Our program prioritizes building the judgment and habits that keep you safe for a lifetime of flying.

Stop Wondering. Start Flying.

A Discovery Flight is 30 minutes and $350. You'll take the controls of a Cirrus SR-Series aircraft with a trained instructor by your side. Most people who take one wonder why they waited so long.

Modern Journeys

I've visited a few pilot schools around the Houston area and after visiting Modern Pilot I can honestly say that I hadn't visited a pilot school that was so welcoming, considerate and supportive with accomplishing my goals to becoming a pilot as much as Modern Pilot.

I recently purchased a Cirrus and Eric not only went and picked it up, he also gave me instruction for the Embark training. I would use them again and again and couldn't recommend this place enough! Very thorough training and good company!

Just finished my Cirrus transition training here. It's an incredible facility with an incredible staff. It's a great environment to learn in. Eric, the owner, is super passionate about safety and also a wonderful instructor. I cannot suggest this facility enough.
